I got into life coaching because I’m passionate about the amorphous concept of “life purpose”. Obsessed with it. Have been raked over the coals to find it. Have found my life purpose between the frames of paintings at the Guggenheim, between the words in a Mary Oliver poem, and in the sidebar of one of my favorite coach/mentor’s newsletters.
It’s lurking, everywhere.
And as coaches, we’re on both sides of the life purpose fence. We can help others find it… and we seek it with a unique determination, commitment, and almost desperation. And we long to express it through our businesses

This is why I love working with life coaches. Yes, I know a thing or two about business, but that’s almost moot. What I know about business is only in service of helping people express their life purposes.
Can you see how there are two things for me to play with here?
My specialty is life purpose. And I work with plenty of non-coaches to help them discover theirs, as well.

You don’t have to declare: I work with women between the ages of 40-57 who have a pet iguana and 2.5 kids in college and drive a mid-range SUV but feel unsatisfied with their lives….
You can declare: I help people grieve. I help people get divorced and stay sane. I help people discover what they want to do for the rest of their lives.
The question isn’t: “What’s my niche?” OR “What’s my specialty?”
The question is: WHAT or WHO do I love?
Do you love moms? Divorcing women? Corporate men?
Do you love life purpose? Transition? Career coaching?
Find what you love, and talk about it. OR talk to them. Either one will be more inspiring to you than following the “I have to have a niche” thing.
